De Gea left United at the end of last season, with the Red Devils signing Andre Onana for more than £50million.

It brought an end to 12 years at the Red Devils for the Spaniard, who amassed an amazing 545 appearances.

However, it is now October and the free agent is yet to sign for another club.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were both said to be interested, but brought in cover from elsewhere.

The 32-year-old has got fans excited over a possible return to Old Trafford with pictures alongside his now former teammates.

Reports had suggested that he could make a sensational return while Onana is at the Africa Cup of Nations.

talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook had this to say on the matter: “Obviously Manchester United won’t comment officially on transfer speculation, but I think the key words in that article is ’embarrassing U-turn’.

“I think it would be embarrassing given De Gea’s departure last season. Not only would it undermine Erik ten Hag, as it was his decision to bring in Andre Onana, but it would undermine Onana as well.

“He’s had a difficult start to his Manchester United career, but fans will be hoping that penalty save will be the turning point. I just don’t envisage a scenario where De Gea returns to Man United.”
