Justin Jefferson interrupts live Kirk Cousins interview to hang medal around his neck

Kirk Cousins went primetime and ended up with a sweet diamond-covered chain.

The Minnesota quarterback was the best QB on the field on Monday Night Football, as Cousins passed for 378 yards and two touchdowns and the Vikings upset the San Francisco 49ers 22-17.

Then things really became fun.

As the down-to-earth QB conducted a live interview on ESPN, Minnesota wide receiver Justin Jefferson draped Cousins in a Top 10 chain that was a cool nod to SportsCenter’s most famous segment.

Jefferson, who is recovering from an injury, interrupted Cousins’ interview and began yelling so loud that questions for the QB couldn’t be heard.

Cousins appeared to love the affection, telling the interviewer that he enjoyed the unexpected moment.

“I’ll take it,” Cousins said. “I love it.”

Even without Jefferson, the Vikings (3-4) pushed around the 49ers (5-2), who have dropped two consecutive games while San Francisco QB Brock Purdy has struggled.

Minnesota collected 24 first downs and unleashed an offense that produced 452 total yards.

Cousins led the purple attack, completing 35-of-45 passes and carrying the Vikings to a much-needed victory.

“Against that team, that’s big-time quarterback play in my mind,” Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell said.

Minnesota had a frustrating start to a new season, dragged down by turnovers and poor execution.

But the NFC North is still up for grabs and the Vikings’ win over the 49ers will change the immediate outlook for Minnesota.

Losing Jefferson was supposed to bring an early end to Minnesota’s 2023 campaign.

Beating the 49ers with Cousins playing so sharply will give the Vikings a new spark.

“Obviously, our season isn’t going as well as we would like it to,” Minnesota defender Camryn Bynum said. “But nothing’s better than bouncing back from adversity and stacking wins up.”
